AMATYC Conference in Boston, Next Week

I'm headed to Boston on Wednesday for the annual conference of the American mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges. Let me know if you'll be there too.

  1. Our whole department will be at Boston. We are lucky enough to have grant money to pay for our travel. Our college barely has enough money to pay for salaries.

  2. Yeah, I didn't even ask my college to reimburse me.

It would be fun to have a bloggers' meetup.

  3. Hey, Boston's where I teach!

I wanted to let you know about an algebra lesson that I have created and found a lot of success with. I was actually able to upload the files for the lesson onto my blog through a widget. Since your blog is one that I frequent (and link to), I thought I'd share...

The project is a grass growing project that links concepts of ecology to algebra, and engages my students more than any other lesson I have created. I'm very happy to be able to share it with everyone [who reads my blog and teaches algebra] :)

Students love watching their grass grow and taking care of it, so much so that they forget to complain about the algebra! I hope you check it out!
